peasants in the sun

peasants in the sun is a durational work consisting of an archive I created by taking videos and film photos every day for 2 years. I collaged those videos into the short film. peasants in the sun explores what it looks like for marginalized – mostly queer, trans, BIPOC, and poor – young students to find joy amidst unprecedented hardship. Filming began pre-covid and continues to this day as we learn how to adapt, survive, and resist. We care for each other and learn that the key to our survival is remembering how to laugh together again and again.
